According to the law, foreigners in China must complete accommodation registration within 24 hours of entry or changing their address.
按照法律规定，外籍人士入境中国后，或变更居住地址后，必须在24小时内完成住宿登记备案，这是强制要求。
This rule applies to all three living scenarios: renting an apartment, staying at relatives’ or friends’ home, and living in a hotel.
该要求覆盖所有居住场景：自己租房、住亲友家、入住酒店，无一例外，酒店会统一代办，非酒店住宿需自行办理。

Since March 2026, the official online channel for foreigners’ accommodation registration is fully available in pilot areas.
2026年3月起，试点地区正式开通外国人住宿登记官方线上通道，全程免费，无需线下跑派出所。
Follow these steps strictly, even beginners can finish it smoothly without mistakes.
严格按照以下步骤操作，新手也能一次搞定，不出错、不超时，高效完成备案。
Step 1: Enter the official entrance (3 available channels).
第一步：进入官方办理入口（3大渠道任选，均为正规平台）。
Open the “Immigration 12367” WeChat Mini Program, Alipay Mini Program, or official APP/website.
打开“移民局12367”微信小程序、支付宝小程序，或官方APP、官网，找到外国人服务板块。
Step 2: Complete registration and real-name verification.
第二步：完成注册与实名认证，按提示填写个人基础信息，绑定护照信息。
Step 3: Upload required materials clearly.
第三步：清晰上传必备材料，确保照片完整、字迹清晰，避免因材料问题审核失败。
Prepare valid passport photo, residence certificate, rental contract or address proof.
准备材料：有效护照信息页、现有居留证明、租房合同/亲友居住地址证明（任选对应材料）。
Step 4: Fill in all information correctly and submit for review.
第四步：准确填写居住地址、入境时间等全部信息，核对无误后提交审核。
Step 5: Get the electronic receipt and save it for future use.
第五步：审核通过后，获取电子备案回执，妥善保存，续签证件时需出示查验。

Many foreigners fail the registration or get delayed due to small mistakes, here are the most common ones and solutions.
很多外籍人士因为小失误导致备案失败、审核超时，整理高频踩坑点，附对应补救办法。
1. Wrong information filling (name, passport number, address).
1. 信息填写错误（姓名、护照号、居住地址有误）：立即撤回申请，修正信息后重新提交。
2. Blurry or incomplete uploaded materials.
2. 上传材料模糊、残缺：重新拍摄清晰完整的材料照片，再次上传审核。
3. Fail to update registration after changing address.
3. 变更居住地址未更新备案：搬家后24小时内，重新线上办理地址变更备案，切勿拖延。

If your online application fails or is not supported in your area, you can handle it offline at the nearest police station.
若线上审核不通过，或所在地区暂未开通线上试点，可前往就近派出所线下办理。
Bring all original materials: passport, rental contract, address proof, and fill in the registration form on site.
携带全部材料原件：护照、租房合同、居住地址证明，现场填写登记表，当场可办结回执。
The offline registration has the same legal effect as the online one, no difference in subsequent use.
线下备案与线上备案具备同等法律效力，后续续签、办理证件效力完全一致。
